What’s been happening in I’m a Medic this June

For the last week, students and healthcare professionals have been engaging online in the first zone ever of I’m a Medic, Get me out of here. Together they’ve talked about everything from the wide range of medical careers available, to how to achieve a good work-life balance, to what could be done with Ultimate Power, to how to deal with ‘diagnosis by internet’.

The six healthcare professionals talking to the students in the General Practice Zone include a Practice Nurse, General Practioners, a Practice Manager and a Nurse Practitioner.

I’m a Medic June 2017: Who’s taking part?

This June, we’re launching the first I’m a Medic, Get me out of here event! Between 12th – 23rd June students at 18 schools will put 6 healthcare professionals through their paces, in fast-paced live chats and probing questions on everything to do with general practice, from vaccinations, to prescriptions, to what it’s like to run a GPs surgery. I’m a Medic, Get me out of here launches this June!

Thanks to funding from Health Education East Midlands, and in partnership with The University of Nottingham, University of Leicester, and Derby and Derbyshire LMC, we are launching I’m a Medic, Get me out of here! Based on the long running I’m a Scientist project, I’m a Medic will give school students the opportunity to meet and interact with healthcare professionals online. Through reading profiles, questioning, and taking part in live chats, school students will see that healthcare professionals are normal people while being introduced to the range of careers in medicine and General Practice. The first event will run 12th–23rd June 2017, with a General Practice Zone. Followed by two more zones in November 2017.
